Confucius is nog in leven in Chinees Azië (evenals in Japan, Korea en Vietnam). Test veel de sterker dan de (Europese) ideeën van Marx of Lenin, zijn morele en sociale filosofie overwon gemakkelijk de gezamenlijke inspanningen van de Chinese Communistische Partij in China „bevrijdde de natie van [het zijn] feodaal onderwijs.“ Van Shanghai tot Taipeh aan Hong Kong aan Singapore, kan zijn invloed in alle aspecten van de Chinese maatschappij, vooral Chinese bedrijfsmededeling worden gezien.
De Chinese rapporten worden vaak gevuld met beleefde maar zonder betekenis woorden; bedrijfs de brieven en de fax nemen één, en vaak twee of drie, paragrafen om aan het punt te krijgen. De Chinese vergaderingen worden gekenmerkt door algemene en/of oppervlakkige bespreking: ervoor zorgend dat niemand verliest gezicht is belangrijker dan duidelijk onderzoekend de volledige waaier van adviezen. Wat van Chinese mededeling mist zijn goed-met redenen omklede argumenten, sterke conclusies, duidelijke aanbevelingen, taaie vragen, spontane adviezen en openhartige meningsverschillen. Allen vereisen welomlijnd een persoon om te zijn, om duidelijk te zeggen Dit is wat ik denk, en zo al risico dat een verhouding met hen kwetst die niet akkoord gaan (vooral in hiërarchische verhoudingen). Aan Jim van Drunen ging weinig Nederland altijd te klein zijn. Bilingually raised and working for one of the best known consumer goods companies in the world, he goes international in 1986. Successfully managing a territory stretching from India to Japan for a large tobacco company, it is then time to realise other personal ambitions. Starting his own enterprise and learning Chinese, those are his goals.
