Furthermore, panel manufacturers are pushing the shift toward widescreen by making quick reductions in pricing, as widescreen panels are more efficient to produce.
Growth is particularly strong in the mid- to large-sized segment, where shipments of widescreen models increased by 60.9 percent in Q1 2006, according to market research firm DisplaySearch. As a result, the supplier base for widescreen LCD monitors in Greater China is expected to double in 2007.
This report covers 16 suppliers from mainland China and six from Taiwan, whose combined output of widescreen LCD monitors in 2007 is forecast to reach 8.49 million units, more than double the expected output of 3.13 million units in 2006.
Based on the manufacturing, product development and export statistics provided by the 22 featured suppliers, Global Sources presents the following findings:
• The supplier base in mainland China is forecast to jump from 20 makers to 50 makers in 2007, as cost of LCD panels decreases and market demand for widescreen monitors rises. The majority of these makers are based in Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
• Most makers report high levels of available capacities as they only started producing widescreen models within the last two years.
• Makers expect 22in units to gain momentum in 2008 as their prices are forecast to have the biggest drop in 2007.
To create this report, Global Sources research teams toured the factories of 15 makers and discussed with top-level executives about manufacturing, sales and export plans. The report has an in-depth profile of each of these makers, as well as detailed profile tables of another six suppliers. All suppliers were asked to participate in a survey designed to provide insights into product and price trends, and major issues facing the industry in the next 12 months.
The Industry Background section highlights the main sourcing and manufacturing hubs, as well as the covered regions¡¯ export orientation and major challenges.
