The change and progress in China are astronomical even to a Chinese native as myself. Every time I go back to visit, I have to ask myself if I am still in the cities that I was familiar with. With the goal of eventually going back to China to develop my career, I believe it is worthwhile to revisit some common business practices and underlining cultural norms in China from an outsider’s point of view.

Personally, I think the operation management department is the most important department for the success of your company in China. It may not look the sexiest as Finance and Sales & Marketing but it is essential. You can have a very good product but if you cannot deliver it on time, it is useless. Nobody will buy it. To guanxi or not to guanxi, what actually ís the question? According to many experienced China business consultants, entrepreneurs and trade mission agencies the answer is quite simple. It is ‘do or die’ in business as far as guanxi is concerned.
