“I hired a student from a local university to do my translation…and it ended up hurting my reputation.” "انني استأجرت وهو طالب من جامعة محلية للقيام بلادي الترجمة… وانتهى الاساءه الى سمعة بلدي."
This was the story I heard from a business contact I met with a couple of weeks ago. وكانت هذه قصة سمعتها من الاعمال الاتصال التقيت قبل اسبوعين. He works for a large chemical manufacturer with a presence in China, and they needed their website translated into Chinese. وقال انه يعمل في مصنع كبير الكيمياءيه التي لها وجود في الصين ، وانها تحتاج الى مواقعهم ترجمته الى الصينية. His choice was to hire a local student from China for the job. وكان اختياره لاستئجار المحلية طالب من الصين للعمل. Once he presented the translation to his Chinese business partners, they weren’t impressed — the errors actually made him and his company look less professional in their eyes. وعرض لمرة واحدة لصاحب الترجمة الصينية الشركاء التجاريين ، وانها لم تكن معجبه -- الاخطاء جعلت منه فعلا وشركته تنظر اقل من الفئة الفنية في عيونهم.
My point here isn’t to criticize Chinese students. النقطه هنا ليست لانتقاد الطلاب الصينيين. There are no doubt Chinese students studying here in the US who can produce fine translations. ليس هناك شك الصينية للطلاب الاجانب الذين يدرسون هنا في الولايات المتحدة غرامة يمكن ان تنتج من الترجمات. But without knowing their abilities, you’re always taking a chance and, ultimately, putting your company’s reputation on the line. ولكن دون معرفة قدراتهم ، وكنت دائما أخذ فرصة ، وفي نهاية المطاف ، وضع سمعة الشركة على الخط. Keep in mind also that, since they are students and usually new to US business culture, they will miss the nuances or terms that are so second nature to us we don’t even realize they’re idiomatic or culture-specific. نضع في اعتبارنا ايضا ، حيث انها عادة جديدة والطلاب على الاعمال التجارية بالولايات المتحدة والثقافة ، وانها سوف تضيع الفروق الدقيقة او ان يتم ذلك من حيث طبيعه ثانية لنا بل اننا لا ندرك انهم تعبيري او ثقافة محددة.
I always remind people that, between me (US native fluent in Mandarin Chinese) and my husband (Chinese national fluent in English), we understand the business cultures of the US and China. أنا دائما أذكر ان الناس ، وبين لي (الولايات المتحدة طلاقة في الافندي الوطنية الصينية) وزوجي (الوطنية الصينية بطلاقة باللغه الانجليزيه) ، ونحن نتفهم الاعمال الثقافات من الولايات المتحدة والصين. We also cover the entire linguistic field and, when we collaborate on a translation, the result is the message you intended in the first place. ونحن ايضا تغطية كامل اللغويه الميدان ، وعند ونحن نتعاون على الترجمة ، والنتيجة هي الرسالة التي يقصد بها في المقام الأول.
Seems simple enough — that translation was meant to translate exactly what you wrote in the beginning. يبدو بسيط -- يعني ان الترجمة لترجمة بالضبط ما كنت كتبت في البداية. But sometimes your intention isn’t enough to get it right. ولكن في بعض الاحيان بعزمكم لا يكفى للحصول على الوجه الصحيح.

I hope people start to realize that translation is a profession. وآمل ان يبدأ الناس ان ندرك ان الترجمة مهنة. People knowing both languages don’t necessary make good translators. معرفة لغات الشعوب على حد سواء لا تجعل من الضروري جيدة للمترجمين.

Good points and this is what you get when companies want to pay peanuts. النقاط الجيدة وهذا هو ما تحصل عليه الشركات وعندما اردت ان ادفع الفول السوداني. Like Bill said, translating is a profession and if your company image is important to you, don’t try to save a couple of pennies on that part. وقال ان مشروع قانون ، هو ترجمة والمهنة ، واذا كانت الشركة صورة من المهم لكم ، لا محاولة انقاذ اثنين من البنسات على ذلك الجزء.

Any translation job related to a specific subject/area would need a test run 1st as usual. ترجمة اي وظيفة ذات الصلة لموضوع محدد / المنطقة في حاجة الى اختبار تشغيل الأولى على النحو المعتاد. Most of the time you’d need someone who has the experience or reference. معظم الوقت كنت يحتاجون من لديه الخبرة أو الإشارة.
Another point is classic - don’t go cheapo ones to save $$$ but lose face later. وثمة نقطة أخرى هي الكلاسيكيه -- لا يذهبون cheapo منها لانقاذ $ $ $ ولكنها تفقد وجه في وقت لاحق.

Have to say the same thing about the Chinese, i get mails almost everyday from China both big and small company´s! لزاما علي ان اقول نفس الشيء عن الصينية واحصل على الرسائل كل يوم تقريبا من الصين الكبيرة والصغيرة على حد سواء للشركة!
almost every mail is Google translate so many times you can´t understand what they say تقريبا كل صور البريد الالكتروني هو ترجمة ذلك مرات عديدة كنت لا تستطيع فهم ما يقولون.
So before the Chinese business people criticize us foreigner of not translate Chinese in a proper way, they should learn speak the most common business language them self حتى قبل الصينية ورجال الأعمال ونقد اجنبى من منا لا تترجم في الصينية بطريقة سليمة ، وينبغي ان يتعلموا الكلام الأكثر شيوعا منها لغة الاعمال الذاتية

Bill… Absolutely agree. مشروع قانون على الاطلاق… نوافق على ذلك.
Knowing something about both languages is critical, but that’s nowhere near enough. معرفة كل شيء عن لغات أمر بالغ الاهميه ، ولكن هذا ابعد ما تكون كافية. The translator/interpreter MUST be able to step aside, not interject his/her own opinion, and genuinely facilitate the communication. المترجم / المترجم يجب ان تكون قادرة على خطوة جانبا ، لا interject بلدة الرأي ، وتسهيل التواصل حقا. If something is interpreted correctly and is still not clear to one of the parties, it’s not up to the interpreter to clarify. اذا كان شيء ما تفسر بشكل صحيح ، وهو لا يزال من غير الواضح لأحد الطرفين ، انها لا ترقى الى مترجم لتوضيح. It’s up to the parties to ask each other via the facilitation the interpreter provides. إنه يتعين على الأطراف ان نسأل بعضنا البعض عن طريق تيسير ويقدم المترجم. I would not want an interpreter giving me medical or legal advice; I totally appreciate an interpreter who can clearly tell me what the doctor actually said. لا اريد ان مترجم اعطائي الطبية او المشوره القانونية ؛ انا نقدر تماما من مترجم شفوي واضح يمكن ان تقولوا لي ما قال الطبيب فعلا.
Not only is handling translation and interpreting a profession which should be respected, there is also an art to working with a translator / interpreter which many people fail to realize. ليس فقط هو التعامل مع ترجمة وتفسير المهنة التي ينبغي احترامها ، وهناك ايضا فن الى العمل مع مترجم / مترجم شفوى التي الكثير من الناس لا يدركون.

I am not impressed with the ‘double act’interpretation English to Chinese and vice versa for face-to-face presentation when the interpreter lacks experience. انا لا اعجب مع المزدوجه act'interpretation الانجليزيه الى الصينية ، والعكس بالعكس لوجها لوجه عندما عرض المترجم يفتقر الى الخبرة. Hmmm…business and specialists’ language do not work when the language is interpreted word by word. Hmmm… الاعمال والمتخصصين لغة لا تعمل عندما اللغة هي تفسير كلمة كلمة من قبل. The meaning sometimes is distorted. معنى في بعض الاحيان مشوهه.
