Nothing replaces solid on the ground experience in terms of preparing you for opportunities in China. I have been in executive search here in China for over 12 years primarily specializing in bi-lingual PRC nationals in many different industries. MBA’s may be a sign of motivation, but in terms of skills and abilities, do not really say much to me when compared to actual experience. A brand name international MBA may be useful in terms of contacts and alumni organizations. Too many people put too much faith in degrees and book learning that often has little to do with reality. Chinese organizations may like the bragging rights of post graduate qualifications, but in truth I really question the value (the ROI) of the investment and time and money into adding degrees onto your name card.
