7 Reasons Why You Should Come to China!
By Ted Lee
As I’m a Chinese in China, therefore the title is “7 Reasons Why You Should Come to China”, otherwise it should be “7 Reasons Why You Should Go to China”. But this doesn’t matter much. Below I’ll explain why you really should come to China today if you are not in China yet. As I type while standing, I’ll keep the writing as simple as possible so your reading will also be as simple as possible. Sounds like a win-win strategy.
1. You can get money in China!
“In a global economy beset with slow and even no growth, China stands out as a shining exception. As it transforms itself from a rural economy into an industrial powerhouse, China’s gross domestic product is growing 7% to 8% annually. You see the evidence all around you. Virtually everything is made in China these days — from apparel to computers to cell phones.”
As a result, Microsoft has come to China, Google has come to China, almost all the other Fortune 500 companies have come to China! And they are making big money now in China! Why don’t you come to China as an individual and make some small money?!
Can you or can you not actually, as a foreign individual without much capital, make money in China or even through China?
The answer is absolutely positive! And there are some practical ways already there in which some people are right in the process of making money!
To make this article compact, I’ll not extend this topic here. But I will write another article focusing on this topic later which expects your attention of course.
So if you can make some easy or not easy money in China without much risk, why shouldn’t you come to China?
Well, this is the No. 1 reason why you should come to China. Here comes the No. 2.
2. You can get fame in China!
Though not actually possible for every foreigner, it is still with some possibility for a foreigner to get a popularity that he can never imagine in his own country. A man in the “zone of men” is just a plain man. But he would get much more attention in the “zone of women”. This tells some sense.
Dashan, a Canadian, whose real name is AKA Mark Rowswell, came to China in the late 1980s and has been called the most famous foreigner in China. He has become a regular fixture on Chinese television and a cultural icon across the nation. Ask anyone in China — 8 out of 10 will be able to tell you who Dashan is.
In Dashan’s website, you can find the following words:
Dashan is ‘the most famous foreigner in China’, as a performer and cross-cultual bridge, active in a variety of fields, serves as a goodwill ambassador between China and the west.
That is not bullshit. Even today, Dashan is still going strong. You can still see him now and then on TV and in various kinds of activities. The problem is, can the same Dashan be as popular in Canada as he is in China?
Dashan is only one example, but he is not the only example. Let me share with you another “be famous dream becomes true” story.
CCTV (China Central Television Station) has a TV show named “Star Road” similar with “American Dream” show. I watched it a lot last year. The story I’m going to share happened here. Haoge, a black guy from Africa, and a talented singer at the same time, became famous over one night through surprising performance in the show. Maybe you wanna enjoy his singing now, here’s a link leading you to his shows: http://dv.ouou.com/play/v_e42b6ab56a5a3.html. It’s a Chinese video sharing website like Youtube. You may experience low connection if you are not in China.
Haoge is now famous and starts his singing career in China, a foreign country for him. But why? Yes, he sings really well. But isn’t it doing some positive favor that he sings differently and he’s from Africa?
So why don’t you come to China and try your chances if you have been holding a dream being famous and different? China is being so different than before today. It does not reject different things but cheers on them. Don’t you know 2005 Super Girl champion Li Yuchun was selected as an Asian heroine and made the front cover of TIME Asia? She’s really not a “she”!
3. You can get shocked in China!
Here I don’t mean you will get shocked by high voltage lines. I mean you will get shocked by a totally different and strange culture here and there, now and then. It surely will happen to you when you see so many “New” things you’ve never dreamed or seen before!
My English is not as good as is able to describe the shocking experience foreigners will have at the first trip to China. But another guy from abroad described his sister’s being shocked in China with fabulous words:
“My sister just arrived from Israel to spend the Holiday of Passover with us. Her first visit to one of the local clothing markets was like the first step on the moon for Neil Armstrong, like seeing land for Columbus, like realizing that antibiotics kill bacteria. No less. Her eyes became as large as plates, her jaw dropped, and if I were in the cartoon business, I would go as far as the light bulb on top of her head, and the dollar signs inside her pupils…
In less than a second she has realized, that the same brand names she buys in Europe, on her frequent business trips (she runs research for the largest generic pharmaceutical company in the world - Teva), can be bought for a fraction of the price here in Beijing - and they would look the same, have the SAME quality and will survive the washer and the drier. In fact, they would be the very same as the ones sold in the US and in Europe.”
I know what he said is true. Completely true. His sister’s experience is just one example. Actually every foreigner in China will have his or her own special experience being shocked in China. Many of foreigners in China have their blogs recording their life in China, you’ll learn more by reading their blogs.
So if you are always ready for being shocked, why don’t you come to China?
4. You can get brides in China!
I know there are quite some foreigners who are attracted to Asian women. That’s exactly why websites like http://www.blossoms.com/ are making big money though it needs some efforts and some luck to get a right bride in these sites. Actually things could become pretty easy if you get off the Internet and come to China yourself.
I don’t intend to deny that in China today there are some (not all of them of course) women from 20 to 40 are attracted to western men especially from developed countries. It’s easy to be understood. And it makes male westerners in China find it pretty easy to get a local girlfriend. You’ll know I’m not talking big when you come to China yourself.
Actually helping some women successfully marry abroad has become a big business in China. Many websites in China and out of China are doing this business and not only websites. Many offline companies in big cities like Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing are doing this business too.
So if you happen to prefer Chinese women, why don’t you come to China? But you have to be careful as some women who declare to love you actually don’t.
5. You will get much much fun in China!
Are you having a holiday and some extra money? Then I strongly recommend you travel to China! I’m not working for the China Travel Bureau. I swear!
China has much much fun just as it has many many problems. That’s one reason why people living here are still living here. Much fun kills the displeasure many problems bring. Can you believe it?
Are you a crazy climbing fan? China has lots of not only high but also beautiful mountains.
Are you a crazy opera fan? China has Beijing Opera! It may be not tasteful for you but I bet it will bring you absolutely different experience! And you will surprisingly find out: Opera can be like this!?
Are you a complete shutterbug? Come to China! China has millions of gorgeous sceneries for you to shoot! I also have some recommendations for you in my coming articles. I am also a shutterbug though not a skilled one.
6. You can get paid in China!
If you have no interest in doing business, you can still make a living in China because you can find a job in China and get paid!
Yes, you are right. The most jobs foreigners are doing in China are teaching. Most of the times, it’s English teaching. I will not write guides about how to find a teaching job in China because there are really so many websites that are doing the job.
However, I have written an article about “How to find a non-teaching job in China”. Yes, you can surely get a different job if you hate being a teacher. And you don’t have to speak wonderful Chinese.
I have a friend in Guangzhou. He’s been working in a Bar as a DJ for 2 years. And he’s earning a good salary. See, you can be a DJ if you have such a talent.
You can also be a programmer, a manager, a sales person, a travel guide, a flash maker, a cameraman, a toastmaster, a singer, or whatever position you have a dream with. Impossible is nothing, dude. You can paid in China if you want to. Then you can get a wife in China and build a family and live your life in a totally different country! Isn’t it exciting!?
7. You can get away from China if you want to!
The last reason you should come to China is if you don’t like China after you come here, you can get your ass away from China right away!
It’s like a guarantee of a full refund. Whatsoever, why shouldn’t you come to China and see this old and modern country with more than 5000 year history yourself?!
No matter you come to China for doing business, for teaching, for working, for traveling, for learning, or for anything, this blog is right for you! I’ll continue writing more guides for your various needs. Please make sure you know how to come here again later!
